Seven Critical Business-Building Activities
Top Marketing Executives have shared what works best in developing a strong, profitable Melaleuca referral business. Together they laid out seven critical business-building activities. Not nine, not five - SEVEN. Nothing more, nothing less.
The first four are included in the steps you went through in Melaleuca's Getting Started section. Click the link in the panel to the right to go to the Melaleuca page with each of the Seven Critical Business-Building Activities explained.
This book, "Seven Critical Business-Building Activities" and Compensation Plan details can be found in Melaleuca's Reference Library.
DO NOT REINVENT THIS WHEEL. It is brilliant in its simplicity. Bring your friendship, love, generosity, intentionality, open-mindedness, good nature, honesty, authenticity, and integrity. Bring basic disciplines like neatness, simplicity, accuracy, timeliness, telephone etiquette, professionalism, courtesy, confidence, etc...
Sharing Melaleuca keeps getting simpler. It is truly as simple as referring someone to a good movie or a good restaurant. You may have a lot of experience in business and a lot of good ideas, but take this coaching: Don't do anything that is not in this list, and don't do many of the things or say many of the things you may have done in an MLM-type of business. Experienced leaders are always making adjustments, so attend training on-line, at local events and at annual convention for the latest concepts and nuances in these basics.
Stay plugged into Melaleuca, the source for all of us. Take the coaching of the successful leaders, and pass the successful practices on to the people you refer.
Visit the Getting Started page to lay the foundation of your business prior to setting appointments.

Critical Business-Building Activity #1
Always Keep Building Your Contact List
This is the only inventory you'll ever need to build and maintain.
Critical Business-Building Activity #2
Set Appointments
(First of all, don't call anyone until you've reviewed the basics and gotten training from your mentor.) You will be much better at this than you think! The objective is to share the 3-minute video or set the appointment, NOT to do a miniature overview.
Critical Business-Building Activity #3
Give Delivering Wellness Overviews
Get familiar with how the enrollment is actually made on the Melaleuca website. So simple. Call Business Development at (208) 522-0870, your enroller, or another experienced customer with any questions you may have.
There are three ways in which you can enroll someone:
- On-Line - You do very little - you simply enter the new customer's name, email address and phone number, verify that the person said "yes" to your invitation to enroll as a customer. The new customer completes the form that Melaleuca sends them. You do inform them of Preferred Customer option per the 10-minute enrollment process, and the backup order.
- Paperwork - if you're sitting with the new customers. Look at the Customer and Marketing Executive paperwork in your business-kit and get familiar with the entries to be made. (Available in Spanish, too.) FAX these in RIGHT AWAY.
- Telephone Express Verification: If they are becoming a new customer again (from having cancelled more than six months ago) you and they both need to three-way to Melaleuca for a personal call. Dial: (800) 742-9560. Note: By the time a person becomes a Director III they must have submitted new signed paperwork to the Company.
Critical Business-Building Activity #4
Hold 48-Hour Followup Sessions
There are really two category of enrollment: Someone who says they only want to be a customer (and may enroll someone someday), and someone who intends to enroll people part time to create a small (Cat 2) or a substantial (Cat 3) income and dedicate more time.
If they indicated they want to earn an income as a Category 2 or a Category 3, then before you hang up the phone or leave their house after they enroll, have a Strategy Session meeting scheduled with them in the next few days and be sure they have this website with the instructions to do the "homework" in the Getting Started section.
Critical Business-Building Activity #5
Celebrate Success
People love acknowledgement. Pay attention to the people in your organization. Who has enrolled someone this week? Who advanced to a new leadership level? Who went to a special meeting in their town, achieved 20/20 club, attended Convention... etc?
Leadership Celebration: As soon as you achieve Director, then every month after that, attend the Leadership Celebration near you. Meals are paid by Melaleuca when you: achieve Director for the first time, Quality-Enroll two customers in a month, advance to the next status, or when a personal referral becomes Director.
Critical Business-Building Activity #6
Always Be Involved With Fast Track
Participate in the Better for Less Club's Fast-Track games. These are structured six-week training and business-growth activities.
Critical Business-Building Activity #7
Lead by Example
This is a business that is duplicated. What you do, the people you enroll will tend to do. People do what their leaders do, right? So you, as leader of the people you enroll, must do the right things so the people you enroll will do the right things.
